Unity in the Community Hosts an Annual Summer Enrichment Camp

Posted at 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2022

Unity in the Community recently held its annual summer enrichment camp. A very successful week-long camp was filled with educational, fun and exciting activities. The goal of the summer camp was to develop social skills and leadership skills while providing a safe environment where young people can learn, play and grow. Some of the many activities include harvesting and studying herbs and their benefits, making cool and refreshing herbal drinks, and making their own t-shirt dyed with natural herbal dyes.

A trip to the historic Johnson Farm in Hendersonville NC gave campers a glimpse into days gone by and a way of life that is rapidly disappearing across America. The handmade brick farmhouse was built in 1880 and is used as a heritage education center, which has captured the minds of young people with many interesting and fun facts. Other activities for the week included a trip to Strawberry Hills Farm and skating.

The Unity Community Enrichment Summer Camp was funded by a generous donation from the Polk County Community Foundation.
