Warabi mochi latte specialists bring wagashi-inspired drinks to Tokyo for a limited time only

The boundary between dessert and drink seems to blur over time. With bubble tea inspired by traditional Japanese sweets and increasingly elaborate shakes, who can say how far this trend will go?

Kyoto Rikyu is a cafe specializing in this mix of desserts and drinks, which combines traditional Japanese sweetness mochi warabi with different flavors to create warabi mochi lattes. They currently have two branches in Aichi Prefecture.

Now, for the very first time, Kyoto Rikyu is bringing these drinkable mochi treats to Tokyo, for a very limited time only at a pop-up shop. It’ll only be around until June 23, giving sugary drink hunters just five days to sample it for themselves.

The pop-up store in Tokyo will operate on a limited menu, so it will serve the classic warabi mochi with kinako.

But if you’re a warabi mochi fanatic, it might be worth a trip to their main stores, as the extensive menu consists of all sorts of inventive versions of the candy. Flavors include purple sweet potato, roasted green tea, dulche, matcha, strawberry, green tea, and melon, among others.

The Kyoto Rikyu pop-up store will be at Kokubunji Marui with a limited menu. To try their full menu, check their website for store locations.
