Baseball Hall of Fame Voting is for the Birds
Yesterday, “Big Papi” David Ortiz was voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame by baseball writers and everyone who voted. He was the lone wolf who entered. It has become ridiculous to the point of being a sham.
Look, Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens haven’t entered the room anymore. It’s a joke! These voters are holding these two back because of the steroid era. Listen, I understand that steroids and PEDS have been administered by MLB players in epidemic proportions, but Bonds and Clemens have been cleared in court. Also, there was no policy on steroids when these guys were playing. Which is totally different from when AROD and Manny Ramirez played and were eliminated.
Oh yeah, let’s not forget that Pete Rose and “Shoeless” Joe Jackson didn’t get in because of their dealings in the gambling business. But Bonds and Clemens have been screwed for years. Both players were bristling at the media and both old and new media held it against them.
The vote has become a popularity contest. For example, former ESPN host Dan LeBatard gave his Hall of Fame vote to Dead Spin or TMZ as a joke. The Baseball Hall of Fame needs to buckle down and have more guidance on who votes and how they vote.
Again, Bonds and Clemens got the hang of it. They will enter but not before the committee of veterans votes them. You have to have 75% of the votes and Bonds and Clemens have failed every year. Please give me your opinion on this situation. It’s not true!
