Longtime Harrison resident Dorothy Pruitt Orr, 97, died on September 28, 2021 at LifeCare of Collegedale.
Dorothy was born August 27, 1924. She is a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church. His love and passion for quilting, embroidery, gardening, canning, cooking and helping others will be missed by his family and many friends. Dorothy was a hard worker and she and her husband owned Orr’s Plant Farm. They have cultivated plants and strawberries for over 50 years in the community. She also volunteered at the Bethel Bible Thrift Store for many years. Dorothy was also a huge fan and loved watching the Atlanta Braves.
She was predeceased by her husband, MJ Orr, Jr., her parents, WR and Lizzie Pruitt; sisters, Lela Orr, Hazel Hogan, Mazie McDaniel, Louise Morgan, brothers, Tuck Pruitt, John Henry Pruitt; grandson, Thomas Steffner II and great-grandson, Adam Taylor.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Schaerer (John), Sue Steffner (Tom) of Chattanooga; Elaine Tankersley Crosslin (Don) of Ocala, Florida. Her son, Edward Orr (Leslie) of Athens. Grandchildren: DD Steffner, Chattanooga; Tara Steffner, Fripp Island, South Carolina; Troy (Robin) Orr, Ooltewah; Mark Orr, Banning, California; Starr (Nathan) Smith, Ringgold; Suzanne (Kirk) Stehr, Hixson; Kristi Tankersley, Ooltewah; and Jason (Allison) Tankersley, Apison, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Effie “Jean” Pruitt, Doris Orr from Dallas, Texas, and several beloved nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 2 at 11 a.m. at Old McDonald Cemetery with Pastor Ronnie Dotson as officiant.
The family would like to thank the staff at LifeCare of Collegedale and Hearth Hospice for their excellent care and support during this difficult time.
