Looking for a new town to visit for a day trip to New Jersey? Medford is one of the state’s most underrated small towns, and you’ll find plenty of peace and quiet, along with plenty of delicious dining options. It’s a great place to spend some time when exploring the Garden State!

In these uncertain times, keep safety in mind and consider adding destinations to your bucket-to-visit list at a later date.

You will find Medford in the heart of Burlington County. This sleepy town was once a farming community and still retains its rural roots, despite being located near one of the state’s busiest highways.

Unlike the neighboring towns of Marlton and Mt. Laurel, Medford apparently escaped overdevelopment and still retains a quiet country feel today.

The city is full of historic sites and the Medford Historical Society maintains them.


A visit to Kirby’s Mill, which dates back to 1778, is sure to feel like stepping back in time.

Speaking of walking … you can walk into the city’s largest park, Freedom Park. One section is a dedicated “bark park”, where dogs can run off leash, play together and splash around in the stream.

If you want a taste of farm life, visit Johnson’s Corner Farm.

The farm hosts all kinds of seasonal activities, such as strawberry picking in the summer and pumpkin picking in the fall.
There are also plenty of on-farm activities for the kids, like a corn maze and play area, and the farm shop also sells homemade treats and gourmet foods!


For a quieter experience, visit Forgotten Angels Equine Rescue. The Rescue is open to the public by appointment only, but they run events year round and they are always looking for volunteers!

FAER is the only horse rescue in the county, and over the years they have rescued hundreds of horses, ponies and donkeys. Many of the horses rescued have become show horses or faithful companions.
Keep an eye on their calendar of events and you can sign up for Yoga with Horses or maybe even meet Snowflake and Stanley, their miniature horse mascots.
No small town is complete without great restaurants, and if you’re visiting Medford, you’re in luck!

Main Street Medford has so many great restaurants it’s hard to choose!

The Pop Shop is a bright and cheerful retro place in an old bank. It’s a kid-friendly place to have breakfast or stop for a grilled cheese and milkshake for lunch.

If you head south of town towards Medford Lakes you will find PJ Whelihans.
Whelihans is a local chain with a few branches in South Jersey, and they are known for their mouthwatering wings.

For a higher dining experience, try Braddock’s Tavern.
They serve some of the best steak you can find in Burlington County, and a meal here is always a stylish experience.
